This 1961 Triumph TR3 was just found sitting in a southern California warehouse where it had been sitting since about 1982. This is a car that we bought over the phone, not knowing what was going to arrive. To our surprise, when it arrived out our shop it was a perfect rust-free accident free California Black and Gold -plate car. On closer observation, we noticed it was the very rare TR3 “B” model and was equipped with factory overdrive. The TR3 B’s were built after production had stopped on the TR3 and were assembled using a mix of TR3 and TR4 components. Basically, it was a TR3 with all of the upgrades of a TR4. Needless to say, we could not be happier with our purchase.
A TR3 B in original condition is very rare and it was for that very reason that this car was sold just HOURS after it arrived at our shop! The gentleman who purchased the car just happened to walk in and ask for a TR3 that same day. He had been looking for a TR3 A for some time and was not able to find a good example. So when he saw this car and realized it was the desirable B model, he was immediately sold.
The next step for us is to get the car back up and running after all those years in storage. Our client has asked that we make the car mechanical sound so that he can drive and enjoy the car prior to doing the restoration. The first step for us was to get the car running to make sure we had a motor to work with. The car started up right away and sat and idled like it was driven yesterday. We now need to go through all the hydraulic systems and basically replace everything rubber in order to make it a driver.
We have a lot of work ahead of us on this Triumph but we hope to have it on the road in the next few weeks. Check back to follow the progress on this car and feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have.
